The Library Orientation Programme was successfully conducted on 27th September 2025 in the Ground Floor Seminar Hall to acquaint students with the facilities, resources, and rules of the college library. The event was graced by esteemed dignitaries, faculty members, and enthusiastic students.

Welcome Address & Introduction:

Mrs. Kalpana Gaikwad, the Librarian, warmly welcomed all attendees and introduced the importance of the library in a student’s academic.

"In today’s digital age, books still hold an irreplaceable place in education. A well-equipped fully air conditioned library supports both students and teachers in exploring all areas of study."

She emphasized the library’s crucial role in academic development and highlighted the valuable resources available to law students.

The orientation session was a great success, providing the students with a clear understanding of the library’s offerings and guidelines. The students were encouraged to use the library for research, reading, and academic excellence.

REPORT ON VAACHAN PRERNA DIVAS CELEBRATION

Introduction:

The Library Committee of Oriental College of Law celebrated “Vaachan Prerna Divas” on 15th October, 2025, to commemorate the birth anniversary of Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, the former President of India, renowned scientist, and an ardent advocate of education and reading.

Objective of the Event

The objective of the Reading Inspiration Day celebration was to commemorate the birth anniversary of Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam and to promote the habit of reading among students. The event aimed to:

·         Inspire students to develop a lifelong interest in reading and learning.

·         Encourage creative expression and critical thinking through literary and artistic activities.

·         In still awareness about the importance of knowledge and education as emphasized by Dr. Kalam.

·         Provide a platform for students to showcase their talents through competitions such as bookmark making, book review, and speech.

·         Cultivate a culture of intellectual curiosity, imagination, and self-development within the college community.

Inauguration and Welcome Address

The event commenced with a brief welcome address and an introductory speech presented by Ms. Anisha Kulaye & Mr. Suraj Mujawar Students of 4^th Year B.A.L.L.B., who highlighted Dr. Kalam’s vision and his belief in the power of knowledge and continuous learning.

It was followed by garlanding the photo of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam by the Principal Sir.

Speech by Principal

Principal Sir Dr. Gordhan Devnani then addressed the gathering with an inspiring speech. He emphasized the significance of reading in shaping one’s thoughts, enhancing knowledge, and developing a strong moral character. He encouraged students to cultivate the habit of reading not only for academic success but also for personal growth and lifelong learning.

His words motivated students to follow Dr. Kalam’s ideals and become responsible, informed citizens.

 

Activities:

To mark the occasion, a series of competitions were organised to encourage students to express their creativity and love for reading. These included:

(1) Bookmark Making Competition – where students showcased their artistic talent on the theme “Inspiration through Reading.”

Ms. Anisha Kulaye – 2^nd Prize.

Ms. Rumana Shaikh – 3^rd Prize.

(2) Book Review Presentation – in which participants shared insights and reflections on inspirational books.

Mr. Nivesh Jain – 2^nd Prize.

Mr. Anisha Kulaye – 3^rd Prize.

(3) Speech Competition – on the topic “The Importance of Reading and Knowledge in Today’s World,” conducted in English, Hindi, and Marathi.

Mr. Nivesh Jain – 1^st Prize.

Mr. Pravin Shinde – 1^st Prize.

Ms. Jyotsna Samanta – 2^nd Prize.

Students actively participated in all the competitions with great enthusiasm and creativity. The judges appreciated the originality, effort, and confidence displayed by the participants.

At the conclusion of the event, prizes were announced and awarded to the winners of each competition. The event successfully fulfilled its objective of promoting the habit of reading and encouraging students to engage with books meaningfully.

Vote of Thanks:

The celebration concluded with a vote of thanks by the Chairperson of Library Committee, expressing gratitude to the Management, the Principal, faculty members, and all participants for their support and cooperation in making the event a grand success. It was succeeded by group photo.

LIBRARIAN DAY 2025-2026

Report on Librarian’s Day Celebration

Timing:10.30 a.m. To 12.30 p.m.

Introduction:

To commemorate the 133rd birth anniversary of Dr. S. R. Ranganathan, the father of Library Science in India, the Library Committee of Oriental College of Law, Sanpada, organized Librarian’s Day Celebration on 12th August 2025. The event took place in the college Library and Moot Court Hall, aiming to highlight the pivotal role of libraries and librarians in the academic and professional growth of law students.

This celebration served as a platform to acknowledge the lasting contributions of Dr.S.R. Ranganathan, promote reading culture among students, and encourage active engagement with library resources. A variety of activities including competitions, speeches, and interactive sessions were conducted under the guidance of faculty and with enthusiastic participation from students.

Objectives:

1. To commemorate the birth anniversary of Dr. S. R. Ranganathan.
2. To highlight the importance of libraries and librarians in legal education.
3. To promote reading habits and better use of library resources.
4. To raise awareness about information access and ethics in law.
5. To engage students through competitions and interactive activities.
6. To strengthen the student-library connection as a hub of learning.

Inauguration and Welcome address:

The Librarian’s Day Celebration commenced with a warm and graceful inauguration in the college Library and Moot Court Hall. The program began with the traditional lighting of the lamp, symbolizing the dispelling of darkness through knowledge and learning.

The event was graced by the presence of Principal Dr. Gordhan Devnani, Vice-Principal Dr. Yuthika Sawant, Mrs. Kalpana Gaikwad Librarian, and Library Committee Member Mrs. Mansi Ashar, along with faculty members and students.

 

 

A heartfelt welcome address was delivered by Mr. John Vania a student from 3^rd Year L.L.B., extending greetings to all dignitaries, staff, and students.

Following the inauguration, the program proceeded with inspiring speeches by the esteemed dignitaries.

Speeches by Principal, Librarian, and Vice Principal:

Principal Dr. Gordhan Devnani addressed the gathering, highlighting the crucial role of libraries and librarians in shaping the academic and professional journey of law students. He emphasized how a well-managed library serves as the backbone of any educational institution and encouraged students to make the best use of the available resources.

Next, Librarian Mrs. Kalpana Gaikwad spoke about importance of Library and its rules.

The Vice Principal Prof. Yuthika Sawant concluded the speech segment by encouraging students to develop a lifelong habit of reading and exploration. She stressed the importance of information literacy in the legal profession.

The speeches collectively inspired the students and set a motivating tone for the subsequent activities.

 Activities:

v  Elocution Competition:

Following the motivating address by the Vice Principal, the event proceeded with the much-awaited Elocution Competition, organized to encourage critical thinking and oratory skills among students.

The topic of the competition revolved around "A Brief talk on the Importance of Libraries in Education", allowing participants to express their views on how libraries shape the academic and intellectual growth of future legal professionals.

The competition saw active participation from the following students:

3. Vakil Moinudeen – 2nd Year B.A. L.L.B.
4. Kulaye Anisha – 4th Year B.A. L.L.B.

Each participant presented their thoughts confidently, highlighting the timeless importance of libraries and the visionary contributions of Dr. S. R. Ranganathan. The speeches were rich in content, well-articulated, and appreciated by both faculty and students.

The competition provided a platform for students to develop public speaking skills and reflect on the evolving role of libraries in legal research and education.

v  Logic in Emoji’s

Next, the students enthusiastically participated in the “Logic in Emoji’s” a warm up game — a creative quiz where various emoji’s represented laws, legal concepts, or famous court cases. Participants were challenged to decode the emoji sequences and guess the correct legal terms or landmark cases.

This unique and interactive game sparked excitement among the students, encouraging them to think innovatively while revising important legal topics.

v  Operation Legal Knowledge:

After the elocution competition, all students moved to the library for a fun Treasure Hunt called “Operation Legal Knowledge.”

The students were split into four teams. Each team started by answering a small quiz called “Order in Library.” Only after getting the answers right did they receive their first clue.

Using the clues, the teams searched for answers related to important laws, topics, and famous court cases. The clues led them from one clue to other inside the correct book for the group.

The first team to complete all the clues and get the correct name of case was declared the winner. The winner participant students will be given certificate at the annual prize distribution function. The activity was enjoyable and helped students learn more about the law while working together.

Vote of Thanks

The event concluded with a heartfelt Vote of Thanks delivered by Ms. Kulaye Anisha a student from 4^th year B.A.LL. B, who expressed gratitude to all the dignitaries, faculty members, library staff, and students for their enthusiastic participation and support in making the celebration successful. She specially thanked the President, General Secretary, CEO, Principal, Vice Principal, Librarian, and the Library Committee and Staff for their guidance and encouragement. Following the vote of thanks, all the participants, faculty, and organizers gathered for a group photo to commemorate the memorable Librarian’s Day celebration.
