Introduction:
The Library
Committee of Oriental College of Law celebrated “Vaachan Prerna Divas”
on 15th October, 2025, to commemorate the birth anniversary of Dr.
A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, the former President of India, renowned scientist, and
an ardent advocate of education and reading.
Objective of the Event
The objective of the Reading Inspiration Day celebration
was to commemorate the birth anniversary of Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam
and to promote the habit of reading among students. The event aimed to:

Inspire students to develop a lifelong interest
in reading and learning.
·
Encourage creative expression and critical
thinking through literary and artistic activities.
·
In still awareness about the importance of
knowledge and education as emphasized by Dr. Kalam.
·
Provide a platform for students to showcase
their talents through competitions such as bookmark making, book review, and
speech.
·
Cultivate a culture of intellectual curiosity,
imagination, and self-development within the college community.
Inauguration and Welcome Address
The event
commenced with a brief welcome address and an introductory speech presented by
Ms. Anisha Kulaye & Mr. Suraj Mujawar Students of 4th Year
B.A.L.L.B., who highlighted Dr. Kalam’s vision and his belief in the power of
knowledge and continuous learning.
It was
followed by garlanding the photo of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam by the Principal Sir.
Speech by Principal
Principal Sir Dr.
Gordhan Devnani
then addressed the gathering with an inspiring speech. He emphasized the
significance of reading in shaping one’s thoughts, enhancing knowledge, and
developing a strong moral character. He encouraged students to cultivate the
habit of reading not only for academic success but also for personal growth and
lifelong learning.
His
words motivated students to follow Dr. Kalam’s ideals and become responsible,
informed citizens.
Activities:
To mark
the occasion, a series of competitions were organised to encourage students to
express their creativity and love for reading. These included:
(1) Bookmark
Making Competition – where
students showcased their artistic talent on the theme “Inspiration through
Reading.”
Prizes:
Ms. Simran Shaikh – 1st Prize.
Ms. Anisha Kulaye – 2nd Prize.
Ms. Rumana Shaikh – 3rd Prize.
(2) Book Review Presentation – in which participants shared insights and
reflections on inspirational books.
Prizes:
Mr.
Atharva Khot – 1st Prize.
Mr.
Nivesh Jain – 2nd Prize.
Mr.
Anisha Kulaye – 3rd Prize.
(3) Speech Competition – on the topic “The Importance of Reading and
Knowledge in Today’s World,” conducted in English, Hindi, and
Marathi.

Ms. Sidra Sheikh – 1st Prize.
Mr. Nivesh Jain – 1st Prize.
Mr. Pravin Shinde – 1st Prize.
Ms. Jyotsna Samanta – 2nd Prize.
Mr. Atharva Khot – 3rd Prize.
Students
actively participated in all the competitions with great enthusiasm and
creativity. The judges appreciated the originality, effort, and confidence
displayed by the participants.
At the
conclusion of the event, prizes were announced and awarded to the
winners of each competition. The event successfully fulfilled its objective of
promoting the habit of reading and encouraging students to engage with books
meaningfully.
Vote of Thanks:
The
celebration concluded with a vote of thanks by the Chairperson of Library
Committee, expressing gratitude to the Management, the Principal, faculty
members, and all participants for their support and cooperation in making the
event a grand success. It was succeeded by group photo.
