NATIONAL LIBRARIAN DAY REPORT

Date: 12th August 2024
Venue: College Library, Oriental College of Law

The Oriental College of Law celebrated National Librarian Day with great enthusiasm and respect on 12th August 2024, in the college library. This day holds special significance as it marks the birth anniversary of Dr. S.R. Ranganathan, the father of library science in India. The event aimed to honour the invaluable contributions of librarians in fostering knowledge and promoting the love for reading among students and faculty.

The college library was beautifully decorated for the occasion, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere for all attendees. Students, faculty members, and library staff gathered in large numbers to participate in the event.

The highlight of the celebration was a speech delivered by Mrs. Kalpana Gaikwad, the college librarian. In her insightful and inspiring address, Mrs. Gaikwad elaborated on the importance of National Librarian Day. She spoke about Dr. S.R. Ranganathan’s contributions to library science, particularly his Five Laws of Library Science, which have laid the foundation for modern library practices.

Mrs. Gaikwad also emphasized the evolving role of librarians in the digital age, where they are not just custodians of books but also guides who help students navigate the vast sea of information available online. She encouraged students to make the best use of library resources and to cultivate a habit of reading, which she described as a lifelong asset.

Following the speech, an interactive session was held where students and faculty members had the opportunity to ask questions and share their thoughts on the importance of libraries in education. Mrs. Gaikwad patiently addressed the queries and provided valuable insights on how to effectively utilize library resources.

The event also included a segment where the efforts of the entire library staff were acknowledged. The Principal and faculty members expressed their gratitude to the library team for their dedication and hard work in ensuring the smooth functioning of the library.

The celebration concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by a senior faculty member, who expressed appreciation for Mrs. Gaikwad’s enlightening speech and the active participation of everyone present.

National Librarian Day celebration at Oriental College of Law was a resounding success. It not only highlighted the importance of libraries and librarians in the academic environment but also inspired students to develop a deeper appreciation for the wealth of knowledge that libraries offer. The event served as a reminder of the crucial role that librarians like Mrs. Kalpana Gaikwad play in nurturing the intellectual growth of students and faculty alike.
