NATIONAL LIBRARIAN'S DAY 2021

 

Dr. S. R. Ranganathan Father of Library Science


August 12th is being celebrated as National Librarian’s Day in India, in remembrance of Father of Library Science, Dr. S. R. Ranganathan , who had spearheaded library development in India

Dr. S. R. Ranganathan was born on 9 August 1892, in the small town of Shiyali  in the state of Tamil Nadu . Ranganathan began his professional life as a mathematician; he earned B.A. and M.A. degrees in mathematics from Madras Christian College in his home province, and then went on to earn a teaching license.

He took appointment as the first librarian of Madras University& Received an invitation to develop the library system from the Banaras Hindu University . The Government of India awarded Padmashri to Dr. S.R. Raganathan for his valuable contributions in the field of  Library Science.

He wrote 60 books and 2000 articles.  His life was a symbol of Immortal.

Library committee* of Oriental College of Law celebrated “National Librarian Day” on 12th August,2021,* from 10.30am to 12.30am on Google meet platform.

“Debate competition” was organized for the library committee and all the debate were exhibited during the meet.
Best debate were selected, appreciated and awarded.
